Making baby food.

July 30th 2008 18:31
If you're frugal/poor/hate spending money, then my suggestion is to make your own baby food. Babies are expensive, man! This helps cut out the cost of buying processed, jarred crapola from the grocery store and giving the Big Businesses more money. Sounds good, huh?

All you need is a food processor, some ice cube trays (I've found that a muffin pan also works well), some veggies and fruits, and access to the internet.

Wholesomebabyfood.com is the BEST resource, hands down, for baby food making. They have recipes, tips, tricks, etc.

My first experience was with sweet potatoes. I poked some holes in it, preheated the oven to 415º, rinsed it with water (after I poked the holes), wrapped it in aluminum foil and baked it for an hour and fifteen minutes. I let it cool enough to wear I could mess with it, scooped the meat into the food processor (I use a KitchenAid), added a little bit of water and pureed the heck out of it.

From ONE sweet potato, I got enough servings to feed my kiddo 15 meals. Not so bad, huh? So, I could spend $0.50 a jar (or more) ... Or $1 on a sweet potato and spend some time in my kitchen. There are tons of books, gadgets (marketing schemes), etc, out there for someone aspiring to make their own. I really enjoy it (Calloway does, too!) and I know EXACTLY what I'm feeding my child. It's nice to have that kind of reassurance!

Soon, compliments of Orble, I will be moving to www.cookwithkatie.com and I'm SO EXCITED! Thank you, Orble Team!!

Always,
KT
